PAVLOV'S DOG BIOs

David Surkamp

After leaving Pavlov’s Dog, David Surkamp relocated to Seattle, where he performed with former band member Douglas Rayburn as Madshadows.  That band recorded an album for Janus Records, before the label collapsed into bankruptcy.  An unlikely pairing with British vocalist Ian Matthews, under the moniker HI-FI, produced a pair of much sought after albums “Demonstration Album” & “Moods For Mallards.”

Returning to St. Louis, Surkamp wrote for the St. Louis Post Dispatch for about a decade, before his wedding to his wife Sara.  In 2001, after composing & performing all the instruments on a tour-de-force solo album “Roaring With Light,” Sara & David performed as a duo in Europe as they do weekly in the St. Louis area & with the David Surkamp Band. Surkamp resides in St. Louis with his wife Sara & their children Evan & Saylor.

David Hamilton

After Pavlov’s Dog disbanded, Hamilton eventually made his way out to Hollywood and was soon drawn into the film business.  Among the projects in which he has been involved include the CBS’s “Orleans” (starring Larry Hagman) for which Hamilton was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Best Musical Score for a Prime Time Television Series;  “Ring of Fire,” the IMAX feature film currently playing worldwide; IMAX’s “Yellowstone,” “Forces of Change,” “Spirit of Silicon Valley,” and “Music: The Movie;” “Thanks of a Grateful Nation,” a Humanitas Award-winning mini-series; “Waco: Rules of Engagement,” an Academy Award-nominated documentary; PBS’s “Boccan!,” “Chinese Brush Painting,” “Writers in Residence,” “The Photographic Vision,” “Pandas,” “Coyote: American Trickster,” “Wild Horses” and “Morphosis, most of which were nominated or have won various awards;” the Emmy-nominated “Undersea Societies of Whales and Dolphins” for the Cousteau Society and “Keiko: Born to be Free” for the Ocean Futures Foundation; “The Child in America” for the Smithsonian Institute; “Andrew Jackson and the Common Man” and “John and Abigail Adams” for Encyclopedia Britannica; and “America’s Wilderness” for the BBC.

Steve Scorfina

Steve Scorfina first made his mark on the Midwest rock scene as lead guitarist for REO Speedwagon & Pavlov’s Dog.  After the final days of the Dog, Scorfina joined up with another CBS act “Gulliver” in the early 80’s, before joining with ex-Head East guitarist Mike Sommerville in the Summerville-Scorfina Project.  About 3 years ago, he released a solo album “Polychrome Love Songs.”  Today, Scorfina is a successful antiques broker, scouring the country buying & selling relics of the past. He currently lives in St. Charles with his girlfriend Kathleen Sullivan, and children Jon & Angela.

Mike Safron

After leaving Pavlov’s Dog in 1977, Mike Safron led a 7-piece ensemble called “Children”, which also featured the talents of another former P.D. band member Siegfried Carver on violin.  About two years later, he was enlisted by A&M recording artist Cheryl Dilcher as a drummer, before hooking up with “Rocky Horror Picture Show” actor Riff Raff in L.A.

Dissatisfied with the West Coast scene, he returned home to form his own Mike Safron & the St. Louis Strangers, which released one album “Steal The Night Away.”

In 1994, Safron released a second effort as Pavlov’s Dog 2000, where he took on the role of lead singer. Safron continues to compose today, and resides in St. Louis with his son Darion.

Rick Stockton

Rick has been living in Wichita, Kansas, since 1983 and currently works for a large medical center. I have not played an instrument since leaving St. Louis." After the split of Pavlov's Dog, he took a job in law enforcement in St. Louis in the late 70's and continued that career in the private sector for the now-defunct Stix, Baer & Fuller Department Stores. Just prior to Stix selling out to Dillards in the early 80's, he moved to Wichita to pursue an opportunity in healthcare safety and security. His current title is Environmental Health & Safety Manager, responsible for the safety program, emergency preparedness, security, hazardous materials, fire protection/prevention, and environmental code compliance

Rick has purchased many new instruments over the past several years and has been enjoying playing again. When Rick and his wife Sylvia return to St. Louis to visit family he has played with David Surkamp, Steve Scorfina and Mike Safron periodically over the past few years.

Danny Seidenberg

A member of the Turtle Island String Quartet from 1992 to 2003, Danny Seidenberg, has enjoyed a varied and eclectic musical life. He made his solo viola debut at age 16 with the Pittsburgh Symphony as part of their Young People’s Concert series, then went to on the Juilliard School and a professional tenure in New York.
